Post thirteenth- Reflection about the panel “Using Technology to Enhance Learning” supervised by Prof. Frank Flanagan.

The Department of English from University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras Campus at the College of General Studies offered for two days March 25th and 26th 2014 an interdisciplinary activity called “Student Interventions in General Studies: Interdisciplinary Projects and Creative Initiatives”.  I attended to the activity both days. Therefore, I am going to talk about the second panel I attended in the conference. In the second day I attended to the discussion panel “Using Technology to Enhance Learning” supervised by Prof. Frank Flanagan. In this conference the panelist discussed what is the “cloud” technology. The panelist clearly presented the technology’s benefits as a tool to enhance and improve learning.

In the conference the panelist presented how students can implement technology in the classroom. They described specifically the Google Drive Program. The benefits that they showed that the program had are the following: correct the words, give you grade, permit the student to connect and work with the professor. The panelist presented in the conference how to use the platform. This discussion panel was very useful because it help the student to relate with cybernetic skills that are essentials in the academic career. This system presented by the panelist allows the students to stay organized and have success in writing.

Definitively, this program helps students to interact better with the professor and to have a better organization about writing's works. I think this program is an innovative method to teach writing, and organization and to develop cybernetic skills. The best part of this application is that is totally free. I was very impressed with this conference because I did not know that this platform existed. However, I could relate this method of teaching with the method implemented in the English course. I specifically related the blog’s activity with the program presented in the conference by the panelist. In addition, the blog's activity is also an application of Google. In my personal opinion I think that this conference was a great opportunity to learn about educational tools that students did not know most part of the time. I really enjoyed learn new things and this is why I appreciate a lot this conference because I consider that it will be very educational and helpful to my actual and future academic career. Finally, this conference allowed me to understand new tools about technology and to see that Google is an amazing platform that has a huge variety of applications and that are very useful to enhance learning.

  1. I did not had the opportunity to attend to this panel, but your description sounds like I would enjoy it. It is really interesting how we can learn so much with just attending to a panel. Activities like this are the ones that makes us realize that we still have much to learn about. Great reflection Laura
