Post Fourteenth: Blog’s Final Reflection

During this second semester 2013-2014 in my English course, Journey in Literature, we learned to distinguish two kinds of journeys: an external journey and an inner journey. These two journeys are connected with the same idea: the identity concept. Now I am going to talk specifically about my external journey during the course. We were assigned a blog in which we shared our writing experiences, reflections and thoughts about our external journey. This exercise helps us to write about our external journey that represents the identity concept. In addition, we connected the external journey with the othering concept.

As overall changes I identify that the blog helped me to improve my literature process. This exercise also helps me to improve my analytical and writing skills. I have learned with this activity to summarize, to analyze and to be organized. I also learned to be objective and express what I am thinking in words to bring a message to the readers. The blog’s activity also helps me to understand better the identity concept and to show people that the identity is what identify and define us. I also had the opportunity to analyze the othering concept to see the point of difference. In my opinion the blog is the best way to bring the message that human beings have their own identity. I intended with my blog’s reflection showing what is an external journey and how important is the identity of each person. In the blog you will find that I clearly expressed the different between a tourist and traveler and how important is for people know about the places they visit. The external journey is represented about the knowledge that you could have from the different places and what you want to express to other people. This is clearly expressed in the othering and the identity concepts.

The posts that I most enjoyed were the first post about “Ten Important Places that I have Visited” and the sixth post about “A Day as a Tourist in Puerto Rico”. These were my favorites blog’s posts because in them I could express my feelings. These blog’s post were important for my external journey because these posts directly define my identity as a Puerto Rican and my personal external journey as a traveler. I learned about myself that I have a complete identity as Puerto Rican and I am very proud of being Puerto Rican. I also learn that my external journey represents what define myself and how I perceive the othering concept. In this external journal I identify myself as a traveler because when I visited the different places I was interested to know about the history and the people of the places that I visited, instead of just visit a place to escape from my own reality.

This experience was very meaningful and I really enjoyed doing this project. I love to link my own experiences with the class activities because with this I can feel identified. In my personal opinion the blog’s activity reflected what define myself. This exercise is very useful because it force us to practice the English. I also think that this activity is very educational and a different way to learn English. I enjoyed doing the blog and I also improve my cybernetic skill. I suggest as future ideas about external journeys to do field experiences in the university and to do class’s tours around the Island, because in that way the whole group and each student individually could experiment the experience of being a traveler or a tourist. I think that the external journey is both a collective and an individual experience in which you can perceive the othering and the identity concept. In the class we had the opportunity to experience the individual external journey but not a completely collective external journey. Therefore, is important that we interact with our classmates and other people to live the experience of an external journey. We had a great experience working in-group in the course but this may not be enough to complete the external journey. Finally, I think that my external journey and my inner journey will continue and this is just the beginning of both journeys.
